What a day! Let’s get right to it.

First off, the Birch Rock Bombers traveled to the Waterford School diamond this morning to take on Camp Susan Curtis in the annual friendly exhibition game. CSC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first, but the BRC bats got going in the third and fourth innings, and Caleb D., Luke L. and Gus T. each drove in runs to knot the game at 3-3. In the top of the fifth, CRC struck back with a 3-run triple, but Gus L. and Gonzalo P. responded in the bottom half by driving in a pair of runs. However, the boys in maroon couldn’t muster another run with the bases loaded in the final inning and CRC was victorious. Nevertheless it was a great seesaw battle and BRC demonstrated superb sportsmanship and class even in defeat.

After a well-earned rest period and a hearty heaping helping of sausage and bean jambalaya, the campers challenged the staff to a soccer match. It was a sweaty, sticky affair up on the field, but after 40 minutes of running about and Captain Nemo arbitrarily issuing yellow and red cards, it ended in a virtual tie. On the camper squad were:  Sam R., Luke F., Sam K., David C., RJ H., Kyle P., Josh C., Lucca C., Sebastian T., Devon A., James L., Anthony K., and Hugh J.

Somehow, tomorrow stands to be even more frenetic and steamy, so we’ll cross our fingers against any storms that could interrupt the final push for badges and good ‘ol fun as the first session draws to a close. Turnover Weekend is always full of surprises, so stay tuned.

Also, FYI to those arriving on Sunday:  Please arrive between 10AM and Noon. We look forward to seeing old and new faces alike rolling in to join us.
