Just when we thought that the heat was out, it came back with a vengeance for a scorcher today at camp. However, Birch Rock men fear nothing, shown by Gonzo P, who figured that the best way to beat the heat was to go for a long distance swim. In the spirit of the day, he swam his Loon in excellent time. Other badges were earned as well, going as far as the riflery range! Jonah K joined in earning his Basic riflery badge. Abonga A also snapped up a junior kayaking badge. Well done Birch Rock boys!
Camp was treated to another delicious dinner today as John cooked up some chicken parmesan and spaghetti. Like good Birch Rockers, the salad was the biggest hit at the meal. Our Field Director Peter Brewster had to bring in some extra help to announce the evening activity. Ryan H stepped up to the plate, controlling the crowd like a seasoned vet, and from his lips sprung: SPEED BALL!!! Yes, we finished or day with the classic camp favorite. Campers spent the evening diving, dipping, kicking, and dodging in another spectacular game on the hill.
Then finally, as the sun retreated behind the mountains, we closed out another day at Birch Rock Camp by serenading our neighbors with a round of the Sunset Song . It’s been a hot summer but if we continue to have days like this, bring it on!
