Dear Birch Rock Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the suspension of our Boys’ Camp program for the 2020 season.
Our first and foremost responsibility is the health and safety of our campers and staff. After many weeks of consultations with professional guidance from the CDC, State of Maine, American Camp Association, Maine Summer Camps, Maine Camp Experience, medical professionals, and overwhelming consent from our Board of Trustees, our difficult decision to suspend the Boys’ Camp this summer underscores our motto: Help The Other Fellow.
We all have been affected by the global COVID 19 pandemic in some form and/or fashion, and no matter what changes occur in the next couple of months, our commitment to the Birch Rock Camp community remains steadfast to help protect and support each other.
To our camp parents and families, our mutual partnership in navigating the next year without your son(s) physical existence at the Rock will be challenging. We have worked and planned since September 2019 anticipating your camper’s arrival, and this season will not be the same without him. We value that Birch Rock is part of your family foundation, and appreciate your understanding that this difficult decision is based on doing what is right for our boys, staff, and community.
To our campers and staff, you are who make our campfires magical and magnificent each season. Although we are deeply saddened by not being with you on Lake McWain this season, we will restart our countdown for your sacred spot in 2021. In the interim, please stay tuned for our virtual campfires and other community engagement events. While we cannot be together during the summer of 2020 in the Lodge for campfires or family-style meals, we will be bringing the Birch Rock community together in brand new ways.
To our loyal alumni and friends, thank you for all your emails of support and continual engagement. Your care and concerns are a true testimony to our community. We shall call upon you and our 2020 camp group in planning a spectacular 95th Anniversary celebration in 2021. Together, Birch Rock will reunite to enjoy the sunset splendor across the crimson sky.
As we pivot and navigate our new reality, we will circle back to families and alumni about tuition refunding, roll-over registration and charitable support. We also will explore small camp-based leadership programs for our older boys, Maine Wilderness Adventure (MWA), and Family Camp options for later in the 2020 summer (late-July and August).
For now, let us remember to keep faith, maintain your health and hold hope in our hearts. We are Birch Rockers! May we continue to LOOK UP, LAUGH, LOVE and LIFT!
