Tip 2: Label Everything

One of the most important packing tips for sleepaway camp is to label all of your son’s belongings. With many boys living together in a cabin, it’s easy for items to get mixed up or misplaced.

By clearly labeling your son’s clothes, toiletries, and gear with his full name, you can help prevent lost items and make it easier for him to keep track of his belongings. Don’t forget to label items such as towels, bedding, and sleeping bags, as well as smaller items like socks, underwear, and toiletries.

When packing for sleepaway camp, it’s important to consider the weather conditions your son will encounter. At Birch Rock Camp, the weather can vary throughout the summer, with warm days and cool nights.

Pack a mix of lightweight and warm clothing to ensure that your son is comfortable in all weather conditions. Include shorts, t-shirts, and lightweight pants for warm days, as well as a few long-sleeved shirts and a light jacket or sweatshirt for cooler evenings.

Don’t forget to pack a raincoat or poncho, as well as a hat for sun protection.

Tip 4: Pack Sturdy and Comfortable Shoes

Proper footwear is essential for a comfortable and safe camp experience. At Birch Rock Camp, your son will participate in a variety of activities, from hiking and sports to water activities.

Pack sturdy and comfortable shoes that are appropriate for each type of activity. For hiking and outdoor activities, pack a pair of well-fitting, broken-in hiking boots or sturdy sneakers with good traction. These shoes should provide support and protection for your son’s feet on uneven terrain.

For water activities, pack a pair of water shoes or croc sandals with a secure fit. These will help protect your son’s feet from rocks and roots along the waterfront paths.

Tip 5: Pack Adequate Toiletries and Personal Care Items

Personal hygiene is important at sleepaway camp, and packing the right toiletries and personal care items can help your son feel comfortable and confident. Pack a toiletry kit with essentials such as toothpaste, a toothbrush, floss, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and deodorant.

Consider packing travel-sized or sample-sized toiletries to save space and make it easier for your son to manage his supplies. Don’t forget to include sun protection items such as sunscreen and lip balm with SPF.

For outdoor activities like hiking or camping, pack a backpack, water bottle, and any other gear recommended by the camp. A flashlight or headlamp can be useful for nighttime activities or reading in the cabin.

If your son has a particular interest or hobby, such as playing a musical instrument or practicing magic tricks, pack any necessary supplies or equipment to help him pursue these interests during downtime at camp.
