GOOOOOOD MORNING BIRCH ROCK CAMP!!!

It’s Opening Day! Whooo!

A small crowd of campers and the staff gathered at the flagpole this morning, brimming with excitement and anticipation for the 2024 season to kick off. Eddy cooked up a special batch of breakfast sandwiches and potato pancakes to make sure we had enough energy to make it through this busy day.

Campers and counselors alike headed up to the Field to play games like Super Knockout, Soccer, and the camp classic Orb as new arrivals began pouring down the driveway. More and more campers joined the fray, only adding to the energy on the field.

Everyone proceeded down the hill towards the Waterfront for the first General Swim of the year. The Waterfront Rules spiel never gets old to veteran campers, and is very informative for the new campers as well. Following some iconic “Buddy Up!” calls, the crowd headed up to the Grove for a delightful lunch of sub sandwiches. I myself love a good ham and provolone sub!

More and more campers arrived and joined in with us, as old friends were reunited and new friendships kindled. Our Field Director Nick Ferraina announced our Afternoon Activity would be Name Games back on the field so we could learn the names of many new faces around camp. As the Name Games winded down, campers once again headed to the Waterfront for the second General Swim of the year!

Following General Swim everyone returned to their cabins to make their beds. If you’re new to Birch Rock, every morning the campers make tight beds with a dust cover over the pillow and four hospital corners. It helps the campers learn not only a new skill, but helps improve their mood as they feel proud about making a sharp bed! Be on the lookout for your son as a Best Bed winner at the bottom of the daily blog!

Head Counselor Nick “Musc” Musciano rang the dinner bell and the whole camp was finally together for a yummy chop suey dinner cooked by our awesome Head Chef Jon and his fantastic team! We wrapped up the day down at the Birch Rock itself for introductions and got to learn a little more about each other. Everyone on campus had an early bedtime to rest from the long and exciting day to be full of energy for the many more exciting days to come!

Stay tuned!
