Saturday was an incredible day with the Board of Trustees at camp to see all the amazing things happening firsthand. The day started with an amazing breakfast of grits, fruit, yogurt, bacon, waffles with strawberries and whipped cream! You could see camper’s eyes popping out of their heads with joy.

The morning was filled with activities. Four campers earned their Jr. Woodshop Badge: Simon M., Woods H., Robbin N., and Cyrus C. There was a ton of reading at camp during the last couple of weeks as four campers also earned their Avid Reader Badge: Cyrus C., Thomas P.Z., Wilson N. and Sammy S. At lacrosse they checked the speed of their shots on goal using a speed gun with Cormick T. getting the fastest speed clocking in at 60 mph.

There were several big swims at camp today. Caleb B. and Alden W. both completed their “ducks” while Alex M. and Ramon both did their “loons.”

All the camps in Waterford competed in the 5th Annual Regatta. Jack M. and Leland represented BRC and made us proud with counselors John and Jarred. Our campers and counselors “helped the other fellow” giving other camps a hand with their sailboats prior to the race and shaking hands at the end of the race. When the day was done Jack M. had won 1st place in the Lazar category and 1st place overall. Leland N. won 1st place in the Sunfish category.

At lunch we honored the memory of legendary camper and counselor Peter Haus with black raspberry ice cream cones. Board member Seth Brewster explained to camp what a great man Pete was and how he loved BRC.

In the afternoon, the Moose got back on campus returning from their hiking and canoeing trips. It was reported by all that the trips had been an enormous success. Campers learned skills in the woods while having a terrific time.

At flagpole we learned that Munn got honorable mention for their cabin while Walker won best cabin. Best spot went to Johann D. Best bed went to Ramon and the super camper of the day was of course Jack M.

Dinner was even better than breakfast. The counselor eyes popped out of their heads as we dined on London broil and salmon with delicious sides.

The night was closed out with a pirate themed campfire. There were many amazing skits. The night started with a funny commercial about Gold Bond powder and how it can remedy the seven seas itch. The Board of Trustees put on a great skit culminating in a rousing rendition of What Shall You Do with a Drunken Sailor performed by the whole camp. There were many highlights including numerous sword fights and pirate scuffles.

It was a tremendous day at Birch Rock Camp!
