A wonderful way to support your son is to write a pep-talk letter for him to receive on his very first day. You can give this to a staff member on Opening Day. Having your words of encouragement to read as he settles into his cabin provides a gentle bridge between home and his new adventure on the Hillside. We’ve created this template for you to start your own letter.

Dear [Camper’s Name],

Your dad and I were so excited to see you heading off with (your counselor’s name) to start your Birch Rock adventure!  We can’t wait to hear all about your cabin mates, your counselor and your junior counselor. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened in your cabin so far? Does your stuffed animal like your bunk?

Being away from home can feel weird, and it’s normal to feel homesick at times. But we’re proud of you for trying this awesome adventure. You’re going to have some amazing stories to tell us about the cool stuff you’re doing at Birch Rock. What activity are you most excited to try?

Have a blast, enjoy some new friends and keep being your fantastic self!

Love,

Mom/Dad/Parents/Guardian
