Something’s stirring in Waterford…

After a grueling 10 months, 5 days, 21 hours and 32 minutes, camp is back baby! A steady stream of counselors has been filing in since Thursday, with each one more enthusiastic than the last. Word of the 90th must’ve spread, because we have more returning veterans than we know what to do with! Hailing from all over the country and all over the globe itself, the staff this year is bringing plenty of experience and new ideas.

In preparation for the campers, we’re tackling work projects left and right. Brush piles are being burned, shoes are being shined, lawns are being mowed, and Janice is overseeing everything per usual. The new floor of the lodge is all the buzz in Western Maine, and rumor has it that the lower wash house got a facelift in the offseason. Stay tuned for more information…

But it’s not all business on Lake McWain. Plenty of afternoons are spent cooling off in the lake and playing Koob by the flagpole (Erik Joelsson remains undefeated). We’re lucky to have the famous Jon Alberry preparing our meals for a sixth year, and his new pizza recipe has been met with critical acclaim. Nights are spent catching up with old friends under the stars, and we always have the loons to lull us to sleep after a long day of work. Summer is good, and the livin’ is easy. All we need now are the kids!

Tomorrow, the BRC community is coming together to celebrate one of camp’s greatest idols, Don Munn. It will be hard moving on this season without Don by our side, but his contributions to this camp will remain forever. Hopefully his Weather Machine will hold up tomorrow and give us a beautiful day to celebrate and reflect on his life.

The 91st is gonna be a wild ride, so leave the technology at home and bring plenty of warm socks. Who’s ready for camp?!
