We awoke this morning to the wail of an electric guitar, our very own Hendrix-reincarnate Theo Tringale shredding out a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Things only got more patriotic from there. After a delicious breakfast of eggs, spuds and sausage, the Wolves and Moose were shipped off to Waterford to march and sing in the 4th of July parade. The remaining Otters and Bears went up to the field to play freedomball (wiffleball) and freedomball (basketball) respectively. Upon return of the parade goers, everybody headed down to the waterfront for a full camp General Swim, then into a lovely rest period.

Finally the moment we had all been waiting for, the 4th of July Birch Rock barbecue! Ribs, chicken, corn, potatoes, and of course the ever divisive summer salad (table 2 finished 3 bowls!). Finally having filled ourselves with Jon’s ever-irresistible cooking and a slice of watermelon for dessert, it was time for Cabin Competition. Continuing the loyal and fervent theme of the day, each cabin competed for glory and bragging rights over the course of the afternoon in various events such as longest plank (first place to Owls Perch’s Liam, holding out for over 4 minutes), Portrait contest, (first place to Cabin 8’s Riley), Counselor Impressions (well done Johnny of Buck’s), and many others. Pete’s Palace came out with a dominating victory overall, followed by a surprised Owl’s Perch, and third place going to Buck’s.

The day eventually wound down after another amazing meal of Italian American subs with upper camp watching Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and lower camp watching Mulan. We all then gathered at the waterfront for the third and final time that day to watch a dazzling display of fireworks before heading off to bed.
