While nothing could match the record setting Tuesday temperatures, we continued Operation Beat the Heat into its second day on the hillside. The morning began with the departure of the first trips of the summer season. The Wolves headed out for hiking in the White Mountains and canoeing on the Umbagog Lake. We eagerly await their return on Friday promising stories of their adventures in the woods.

Here at camp, the day was filled with campers earning badge parts from the waterfront up to the field. Lower campers Aaron H., Jon B., and Robben N. embarked on a brave adventure across the lake and back while at canoeing. Up on the hill, the first badge of the season went out to Mateo R. at Soccer. Brandon D. and Leo L. followed that up at Archery with both earning their Yeoman. Alex Y. shot for and earned his Bowman. The Otters enjoyed a rowdy game of Gaga Ball at Free Time with Leadership Camper Rowan G. James G., Luke S., and Thomas W. were forces to be reckoned with in the pit. Despite the heat, rubber was flying on the tennis court. Luke T. gave counselor Guillem a run for his money, and Jesus R., Mateo R., Raphael S., Javier S., and Alex Y. played a ferocious game of King of the Court during free time.

At dinner we celebrated the birthday of camper Larry Z. with some brownies and chocolate ice cream – delicious! The Otters and Moose spent evening activity at Aqua-Basketball, staying cool on the waterfront while the Bears ran the bases at Kickball. As the sun set over the Oxford Hills, we hit the hay after another beautiful day at Birch Rock Camp.
