We awoke to the skies dumping yet again. Nonetheless, it was a successful day at camp all around. We began with a delicious meal of oatmeal and deconstructed breakfast sandwiches that were a hit! First period began quite normally, with badge parts being earned and fun being had. All throughout there were sprinkles, we persevered. Second period, however, the rain was victorious. It started out as a normal rain, but my period of kayaking tag was derailed when our kayaks began to fill up with water it was raining so hard. IT WAS AWESOME! Everyone rushed in from activities and tried to seek cover, but we were soaked!

I hear general swim for the lower camp was warm from the rainwater, and in free time, we played board games and gaga ball, and then headed back for a very much needed first rest. Lunch was a delicious grilled cheese and tomato soup day! Oh, and I think every single Birch Rock community member may have had three grilled cheeses! Very few people had room for rice krispy treats, but they were still devoured!!

Even with a little thunder, activities still a go! Jax E. earned his junior badge at kayaking! Up on the field, a crazy game of knockout was played during basketball. Lastly, at Fourth period Tom C. worked hard on his Advanced self rescues, and Trip E. was an amazing assistant. In a blur Johnny B. cranked senior badge parts like nobody’s business! Elsewhere, George Kawishima earned his Junior Campcraft badge in blazing time!

At Upper Camp General/Free Time, I witnessed a HUGE game of gaga ball with almost all of lower camp, and played a crazy game of doubles tennis with Sawyer J., Julien N., and Finn C. But the highlight had to be the most intense game of tetherball I’ve seen in my time at Birch Rock. I watched Johan D. and Brayden Z. battle it out for TEN minutes, with Johan finally emerging victorious after a controversial rope call. Second rest called for showers for the entire otters age group, so our youngest Birch Rockers had a blast listening to some awesome music while they cleaned themselves up! We then had a delicious dinner of American Chop Suey and for dessert, we celebrated staff member Aidan Singer’s 18th birthday with red velvet cupcakes! Happy Birthday, Aidan!

Although we were unable to go to the field for evening activity, we had so much fun! The Birch Rock Retirement Home was open for business, and we played a mean game of bingo. Winning campers would choose a staff member who had previously selected a prize, and it would be presented to them! Some highlights included a staff shirt given from Jeffrey to Teddy M., a motor boat ride given from Sam to Micah S., and perhaps the best one, objectively and completely impartially, was mine, given to Charlie L. It was a child’s XL shirt that reads “What Happens at Camp Stays at Camp,” but I guess that’s not the case with today’s blog! Hopefully the sun peeks out of the clouds tomorrow!
