Today was our last full activity day of the summer, and it was a busy one.

After breakfast, we had our final cleanup of the year. Cabins got one last sweep, beds were made, shelves were organized, and then everyone headed off to first activity period.

One of the biggest moments of the morning was the return of the MWAs! After three weeks away from camp, they finally made it back to Birch Rock. During their trip they hiked in the Mahoosucs, canoed the Allagash Waterway, went whitewater rafting on the Penobscot River, and rock climbed in Acadia. It was great to have them back in camp and hear some stories from their trip.

After second activity period, lower camp headed down for General Swim before rest period and lunch.

At lunch, we celebrated Logan Landry for 10 years of service to Birch Rock. Ten years is a pretty big milestone, so Logan officially joined the Decade Club. Congrats, Logan!

We also had a belated birthday celebration for Jeffrey Napier-Kane. Jeffrey’s longtime birthday dessert of choice is chocolate milk, so naturally, that’s what we had. Happy belated birthday, JNK!

The afternoon was mostly focused on getting ready for Banquet. Campers helped out with work projects and setup while others played field games like pickleball, soccer, basketball, and football. Earlier in the day, campers who had never been to Banquet before took part in the annual Lycopodium Hunt, while the Bears helped get the Lodge ready.

There were also a few campers still working on some last-minute badges. Graham F. and Louis A. both completed their Loons, and Aden R. swam his Seal. A great way to wrap up the activity season.

After another General Swim and rest period, it was finally time for Banquet.

The Lodge looked completely different. It was full of wacky decorations, and the tables had been moved into one long banquet-style setup. Everyone packed in for dinner and enjoyed one of our last big meals together as a full camp.

At the end of dinner, we gave a few Birch Rock cheers to the kitchen staff and the Ladies of Birch Rock to thank them for everything they have done this summer.

We also unveiled a new plaque for Janice Walker to celebrate her 40 years of service to Birch Rock. Forty years is an incredible amount of time, and it was really special to recognize Janice in front of the whole camp.

After Banquet came the Badge Ceremony.

This year, campers earned more than 400 badges across camp. That is a lot of badges and a lot of hard work. Everyone got a huge round of applause for all they accomplished this summer.

With the Badge Ceremony finished, we headed off to bed after a long and exciting day.

Tomorrow is Packing Day, the Chip Ceremony, and Frisbee Masters, which is basically Golf Masters but with frisbee golf.

The summer might be winding down, but we’ve still got a little more camp left.
