Greetings from Birch Rock Camp, where the spirit of Independence Day filled every moment, from the crack of dawn until lights out. The day began with a hearty breakfast spread featuring oatmeal, fresh fruits, yogurt, savory sausages, and stacks of pancakes.

Our morning continued with a poignant Independence Day speech delivered by one of our beloved counselors. The Lower Campers and enthusiastic staff later took part in the Waterford parade, where we marched proudly, belting out camp songs and waving from decorated camp trucks adorned in red, white, and blue.

Back at camp, the atmosphere buzzed with excitement as games took center stage. Fields came alive with spirited matches of soccer and knockout, while a monumental tug-of-war contest united campers in friendly competition and laughter.

The midday sun found us gathering for a wonderful lunch spread under the open sky, featuring tender ribs, crisp string beans, savory chicken wings, golden potatoes, and sweet corn—a feast fit for champions. Reinvigorated by our meal, the entire camp united for a thrilling game of cross-camp capture the flag, showcasing teamwork, strategy, and pure enthusiasm.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, we indulged in a delightful dinner of Italian sandwiches, followed by well-deserved banana splits that brought smiles to every face. The evening continued with a special treat as Birch Rock Camp opened its BRC Cinema for the first time this summer. Lower campers delighted in the timeless classic “The Lion King,” while upper campers were captivated by “The Princess Bride,” each film drawing cheers and applause from its respective audience.

The grand finale of our spectacular day unfolded with awe-inspiring fireworks cascading over the serene lake, a dazzling display courtesy of our neighbors. Silhouetted against the night sky, campers and counselors alike marveled at the bursts of color and crackles of sound, a perfect ending to a day brimming with joy, friendship, and cherished memories.

As we bid farewell to this memorable Fourth of July at Birch Rock Camp, hearts and minds are filled with gratitude for the bonds forged, the laughter shared, and the spirit of camaraderie that defines our community. Here’s to many more celebrations of freedom, unity, and the magic of summer camp at Birch Rock.
