Brian’s Decade Celebration- July 14th Blog
Posted by: Birch Rock Camp
What an amazing day in Waterford, ME! Camp was hopping this morning with anticipation for the fun activities to come.
A big congratulations to Julian N. for swimming his seal today! It was the perfect day for it, and he swam in excellent time – no McWain Monster sightings were reported!
In the afternoon, the whole camp went down to the waterfront to beat the heat and play in the water carnival. The activities ranged from build-a-boat and wacky canoe races to relay races and the ever-popular greased watermelon challenge – and many more! Laughter and splashes filled the air as everyone enjoyed the cool, refreshing water.
Sunday, July 14, 2024, marks an important day in Birch Rock history. It was a day of rejuvenation, reflection, and most importantly, the celebration of our beloved friend, Brian Farley. His ten years of service to the Birch Rock community is remarkably rare because all ten years were spent as a staff member. The bestowing of the decade vest by Rich Deering, and therefore entry to the decade club, is our way of recognizing his dedication to the community.
The truth is, many individuals who receive this vest have spent multiple years as a camper and staff member. It is peculiar to find an individual who can achieve this feat as only a staff member or camper (shoutout Caleb Davis). Brian is the most peculiar of them all, and we cherish him for everything he does here at camp. He is a champion of civility and chivalry and pushes us all to be better each and every day.
To finish off an incredible Sunday, we all went down to the Birch Rock for our weekly Tree Talk. The Birch Rock is where we focus on BRC values and talk about the importance of kindness, community, and personal growth. This Sunday, we focused on ‘warm fuzzies.’ A ‘warm fuzzy’ is a compliment you can give to someone to uplift them and make their day just a bit better. Example: Brian is an incredible role model, an amazing friend, mentor, and leader at camp – thank you for 10 years of dedicated work, Brian!
