Last Day of First Session- July 19th Blog
Posted by: Birch Rock Camp
The last day of first session was filled with fun and excitement. After breakfast everyone went back to their cabins to clean up and pack. Campers headed up the hill to play games as they finished cleaning and packing. The bell was rung, and everyone headed down the hill to cheer Mario P. on as he finished his Whale in 3 hours and 14 minutes.
After lunch camp watched the band, The Boat House Boys. Riley W. (guitar) and Connor P. (guitar and lead vocals) earned their Advance Music Badge while they performed a concert with special guest musicians. Camper Lennerd C. played bass well counselor John Flannery played the drums. Their set consisted of:
- Song Two by Blur
- All the Small Things by Blink 182
- Polar Opposites by Modest Mouse
- One Big Holiday by My Morning Jacket
- Hotel California by the Eagles (sung by counselor, Danny Ball)
- Everlong by the Foo Fighters (sung by junior counselor Chad H.)
The camp went crazy moshing, dancing, and screaming their brains out for this amazing band.
The festivities continued with Cross Camp Capture the Flag & the Frisbee Master’s. During these two games a huge bald Eagle was spotted overhead by many a keen eye. Once the golf scores were tallied up it was evident that Tom C. was the winner of the Masters Frisbee Golf Tournament. He was awarded the coveted green blazer.
While all of this was happening on land, Michael N. was in the water swimming his Seal. He did an amazing job. In addition, Javier S. earned his Advanced Tennis Badge and Jasper R. earned his Advanced Art Badge today.
We held banquet with a full turkey dinner with all the traditional Thanksgiving trimmings. It was delicious as well all were stuffed like the turkey we had just eaten.
It was then time for badge ceremony. Badges were awarded to all the first session camper’s heading home. There were too many badges handed out to count. After that campers had a moment to reflect and thank their fellow campers and
counselors as they threw their birch chip into the fire.
The night concluded on a high note with cabin parties. Cabins danced the night away with snacks, treats and camaraderie. Campers promised to write and see each other again next summer!
