What a wonderful day at Birch Rock! After Pete graced us with a beautiful wake-up serenade, we moseyed our way to the lodge, where Eddy served up some delicious French toast (French-style, of course) to fuel our bodies for the day ahead.

The weather was just right today. After a string of pretty hot days, the cooler change of pace was warmly welcomed by campers and counselors alike.

Not surprisingly, our campers were ready and more than able to achieve plenty of badges. David B. and Amos L. crushed their Jr. Mountain Biking badges, earning them the excellent nicknames “DB Extreme” and “Flames of Vengeance,” respectively. Over on the field, Sam F. was turning heads as he sped around with just one goal in mind: his Senior Lacrosse badge. When offered a well-deserved break, he had only one thing to say: “I just need 10 seconds.”

In a bittersweet moment, we had to say a temporary goodbye to our Moose, who headed out on their big trips—one group canoeing and the other hiking. Their departure leaves camp feeling a little smaller for the next few days.

BREAKING NEWS: We interrupt your regularly scheduled blog for an update on the Lower Camp mayoral election. After a fiercely tight race, the results are in and conclusive. The new mayor-elect of Lower Camp is Ziggy S.! Ziggy gracefully and humbly accepted his new role, promising to crack down on untucked shirts and lost Magic cards.

To close out a day to remember, Field Director Noah T. brought back an old classic evening activity: BLITZ! In the true spirit of sportsmanship—and to honor 100 years of Birch Rock—both teams fought to a spectacular 100-100 tie. The game was sealed in dramatic fashion by Will B., who landed an amazing bicycle kick from across the field.
