First Day of Activities!- June 27th Blog

Good Afternoon Birch Rock!
What an amazing start to the summer today has been! After a peaceful night of introductions the day kicked off with some even more amazing and beautiful weather. The sun was out and activities were a-going.
Up on the field balls were flying as baseball and basketball lined up with campers looking to show off their off-season skills. The waterfront was electric with sailing and windsurfing boats flying around from the great wind we had. Down at campcraft the smell of oaky smoke began to rise up the hill once again as kids were mastering their woodsman skills.
After a great morning of activities and free time, the campers winded down at 1st rest… so they could get ready for chicken patty Thursday! At Birch Rock some of our meals are treated like holidays. There’s pizza Friday, taco Tuesday, chicken patty Thursday and even thanksgiving Sundays. After a wonderful meal of chicken patties and Pete’s Spicy Special Sauce, the campers kicked back into gear for an afternoon of more activities.
The first day not only comes with activities, but also inspection. Each cabin every day is expected to clean up, make their beds and look as neat as possible for head counselor Nick Musciano, except this year Musc has decided to do something a little different. Winning best cabin, best bed or super camper earns your cabin points every week. What do these points do? Well at the end of every week the lower camp cabin and upper camp cabin with the most points earns a special head counselor prize! Today was a crazy surprise as the youngest cabin (Hilton A) not only won best cabin due to cleanliness and cuteness, but also Robin N. won super camper earning their cabin 3 points off the bat! Alex Y. won best bed for his cabin Tourmaline unlocking cheese balls from John Flannery!
As the day ended the campers and counselors climbed up the hill for a long time evening activity tradition. The first evening activity of every summer should be one of the best. Quorum!!!! As people lined one end of the field they ran all the way to the other trying not to get caught by the Quorum masters. If caught, they would have to become one and try to convert their friends to the side of the Quorum masters. As things wound down, a sunset song ran out through the hills and for the first day of the summer…
A good time was had by all.
