Whale in the Water! – August 8th Blog
Posted by: Birch Rock Camp
After a bit of a cold night, campers rose on this fine morning to some amazing news. Charlie L. was in the water swimming his whale. The pinnacle of achievements here at camp, campers and staff were excited to cheer on a member of our community for taking on this incredible feat. “SWIM CHARLIE SWIM!” soared out of our campers and staff, as per usual with the echos we often belt out in the mornings. Today was a big day.
Breakfast was delicious as usual. Breakfast sandwiches fly out of the kitchen as our hungry family gobbles this tasty meal down everytime we get the pleasure of eating them. Plenty of yogurt and fruit were consumed as well. Energy was high, and the day couldn’t be more picture perfect.
The day was cool and the sun was out. Badges flew from all corners of camp. Down on the waterfront, Wyatt K. and Quinn V. both jammed out and earned their junior music badges! Rock on! Kevin C. did a great job during kayaking and earned himself his junior badge! Up top, Ben B. had been working hard this session and managed to earn his senior woodshop badge!
DING DING DING DING: whale bell.
Campers and staff hurried down to the waterfront to cheer on our dear Charlie who was just now finishing his swim. Cheers and chants echoed across the lake as the energy and support for our friend was bone shaking. Closer, closer, closer…FINISHED! Charlie completed his whale and we are so proud of him!
Lunch was a camp favorite: chicken patties. In fact, our camp loves them so much we actually experienced a shortage of our beloved meal, but the camp was still happy as can be. Camp continued on as the breeze picked up. Plenty of good times were happening as large amounts of baseball sign-ups and swimming lessons occurred.
The day closed out with an outside dinner of shepards pie followed by a game of The Hunt! It was so delicious and the game was a perfect way to burn off some last minute energy.
Till tomorrow!
