Real Maine Day- June 29th Blog
Posted by: Logan Landry
Today was what we call an RMD, or a Real Maine Day, at camp. The sun was shining, the water was warm, and everybody was smiling. Mondays at Birch Rock absolutely rule, because we get back into activities and our usual routine and we appreciate it all the bit more because of the break from the norm on Sundays.
Breakfast was a killer croissant sausage egg and cheese sandwich, and announcements were abuzz with promises of 3D microscopes at nature today to hunt for monarch butterfly eggs. The Wolves prepared to go out for their trips today with trip leaders David, John, and Michael on Umbagog Lake and the Baldface Mountain.
The rest of camp settled into activities, with a focus on breaststroke in Bears instructional swim, as well as an electric music period, including a solo drum feature from James P. A fierce soccer period included badge parts flying with Jax E. and Hunter S.
Second period Max K, Thor K, and Vincent S. canoed an entire loon! At lunch, the Leadership Campers held an Aura Farmers’ Market, where many campers and staff members put their aura to the ultimate test. After lunch the lake got even warmer, and the sun shined even brighter. The highlight of the day was the snack Tug of War that the campers incredibly won. It was a great show of teamwork and perseverance.
Dinner was a delicious chicken alfredo bake, and dessert was described by many to be a dark horse dessert of the year; a banana cake with maple frosting. Wow! We finished off the night with an intense game of quorum, where Alex Y. and Max K made it to the final round. We said a beautiful goodnight to the Plates, our generous next door neighbors, and hit the hay, ready for another great day tomorrow.
