What a Terrific Tuesday at Birch Rock Camp!- June 30th Blog
Posted by: Logan Landry
The energy was high right from the start this morning! Max T. was shooting strictly bullseyes on the archery range, earning his impressive Yeoman badge. Meanwhile, Mateo conquered the waters, swimming across the lake and back in great time to complete his Loon!
After a delicious Taco Tuesday lunch, the campfire theme for this Saturday was officially announced: Hollywood! Excitement spread across camp like wildfire as everyone immediately started brainstorming costume ideas and plotting out hilarious skits. We can’t wait for Saturday night under the spotlight!
Afternoon Adventure: Hilton Hits the Road
In the afternoon, the eight fine young men of Hilton A and B loaded into a camp van with Mike Mattson, Birchie, and Michael N. for an exciting field trip to Mr. Drew and His Animals Too.
To break up the 30-minute drive, the crew made a quick stop at the Dragon’s Lair, where each camper picked out a pack of Magic: The Gathering cards. There’s always something exciting about ripping open a fresh pack, and the boys had a blast discovering their treasures on the road!
Mr. Drew is a wonderful gentleman and a longtime friend of Birch Rock who has dedicated his life to rescuing exotic animals. His impressive educational center is home to birds, geckos, chameleons, snakes, turtles, fish, and insects. The boys got to learn all about these fascinating creatures while getting safely up close and personal. The campers especially enjoyed feeding lettuce to small tortoises, petting a friendly bunny, chatting with the birds, and even holding some unusual insects and snakes!
Before heading back to camp, they made one final stop for a sweet treat. Naturally, an energetic debate broke out over who had received the most ice cream. After careful consideration, it was unanimously decided that the milkshakes contained the greatest quantity, making the shake drinkers the clear winners of the contest! The Hilton boys returned to camp with wonderful memories, a few new Magic cards, and plenty of stories to tell.
Cabin Night & Campfire Delights
Instead of our traditional family-style dinner, tonight was all about Cabin Night! Cabins gathered together to roast hot dogs and gooey S’mores over open campfires. The night was filled with shared laughs, stories, and quality bonding time.
As the sun set over Birch Rock, campers wrapped up yet another memorable day with fun evening activities at both the waterfront and up on the hill. A spectacular time was most definitely had by all! It was another amazing day in paradise, and we can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.
