10 Signs it’s the 4th of July at BRC- July 4th Blog

- Six upper campers and three staff wake up at 6 AM to race in the annual 4 on the Fourth Road Race in Bridgton. BRC placed third for campers overall (a huge improvement from last year), and all six runners ran amazing times. Congratulations to Emmett C. for coming first for Birch Rock as well as Julian M, Angel C, Mateo R, Javier S, and Brady C for their stellar performances.
- For everyone not racing, an amazingly late wake-up blessed Mcwain Pond. Despite this, the Hiltonites were most likely up at 6:30 AM.
- All the lower camp cabins march and sing joyously in the Waterford Town parade! Camp songs as well as the national anthem rang through the crowd as they marched past the Waterford Historic district to screaming fans (and even a few counselors on their day off).
- Ribs for lunch! An absolutely amazing spread is prepared for our patriotic lunch including racks of barbeque ribs, fried chicken, potato salad, corn, and freshly baked dinner rolls.
- Cross-Camp CTF (capture the flag for those not in the know) for afternoon activity! Even in the heat an intense and safe game was had by all. Only the counselors faking injuries for lifeguarding practice in the cradles seemed in any danger.
- After an incredibly windy general swim, campers gathered on the docks to watch the boat parade! Pontoon boats, skiffs, whalers, cruise ships, aircraft carriers, and oil tankers did a lap around the lake honking their horns and waving to our campers. They may have thrown candy, but it sank to the bottom before we could retrieve it.
- After dinner a classic was served, a special treat, a tantalizing and scrumptious snack: banana splits. The campers and staff went absolutely wild.
- After banana splits, campers headed down for our weekly CAMPFIRE! It was very funny. The theme of “movie lines” kept each skit unique in its own way, with the MCs assigning each cabin a specific line from a movie like “what’s in the box,” as well as a competition between the age groups. It was electric.
- A brief bio-break was taken, and then we all gathered on the docks to witness an insane display of rocketry showcased by our friendly neighbors the Whichards. POP, BOOM, BANG (imagine bright lights in your mind), those were just some of the sounds echoing across the lake this evening.
- A good time was had by all.
