Today was a terrific, tranquil, and thriving Taco Tuesday!!

The day started off strong with syrupy, buttery, French toast in the morning to give the campers the kick they needed to approach their morning activities with vim and vigor. And what a morning it was. As we approach the annual camper triathlon this Friday (stay tuned for updates), training was happening all around campus. At swimming, the older kids worked on fast but restful strokes, which will save their legs for the biking and running to come. Bikes could also be seen all around campus practicing accelerating and climbing the brutal hills that surround Lake McWain. As camper Julian M. stated, he trained for every part of the upcoming race in one day: the first leg at instructional swim, the second at mountain biking, the third at soccer, and the focus and reaction it takes to complete a triathlon at pickleball.

Speaking of soccer, today marked the return (after a three-year hiatus) of the Staff vs. Camper soccer game!! After being selected for the roster by soccer instructor Roberto last week, the campers have been working hard on their ball handling, goal scoring, and teamwork skills. After a delicious dinner of grilled chicken salad with watermelon and garlic breadsticks, the tension in the air was palpable. Even before the first whistle, you could recognise the effort that the campers had gone through in preparing for the game. While the staff kicked the ball around and took some errant shots, coach Luis ran his team through regimented and intense warm-ups to fully get in the zone. The game was toughly fought by both sides, but after two incredibly skilled goals by camper Mateo R. and an amazing finish by LC Kieran F, the campers took the game 3-nil at the final whistle. While personally, I was rooting for the staff, a huge congrats to the skill and teamwork of the campers, which led them to victory.

However, the excitement was not over then. Our fearless leader Mega Mike announced that tonight we would be having a slumber party!! Age groups donned their comfiest PJs, unrolled their sleeping bags, and settled into the lodge or the boathouse to watch a movie together. A good and comfy time was had by all, and by the time the kids made it back to their cabins they drifted right off to sleep, dreaming about the incredible day to come tomorrow.
