Goodbyes are hard. We instead said see you later today to many of our campers who stayed for the First Session. Then, we packed our full session campers into the vans and headed to Saco Maine.

After a bathroom stop (or two) and some epic music choices by our counselors, we arrived at the 8th Wonder of the World, Funtown Splashtown USA! The great part about this destination is that rather than choosing between a water park and a theme park for the day, we could hop in between the two. 

We split up into groups and many flocked quickly to the Dragon’s Descent, a tower drop ride that was a favorite of the day. The van rides consisted of murmurs about Excalibur, the biggest roller coaster at the park, and many of the kids and staff members then braved their fears and took on the wild, bumpy ride that was Excalibur. The kids rode Excalibur at least 3-4 times, with the exception of counselor Joshua Garcia, who may never glance at a roller coaster again despite his Hilton campers Ziggy S., Simon M, and Sam F. leading the charge to Excalibur.

Other ride highlights for all ages were the Grand Prix Go Karts, where Ethan N. and Sam F, as well as Gabe E and Ziggy S., joined forces to win a tight race. The Wolves, including James W., Jon B., Eli Z., and Aaron H. conquered Splashtown, going down seemingly every slide there was with Jack Duggan. Poseidon’s Plunge, a drop-slide, was harrowing yet thrilling, and Max T. was incredibly brave and had a blast going down it. 

We enjoyed sandwiches, plums, and cookies prepared by the kitchen for lunch, and headed out for repeat rides and new adventures all across the campus of Funtown Splashtown. It was sad to leave, but dinner and evening activity capped off an amazing Turnover Day.

We celebrated 1947 day (our last year without functional electricity) by having a candlelit dinner, and Head Counselor Pete Brewster magically turned the lights on with the announcement of the BRC Cinema for evening activity. The kids got cozy, settled in for some Surfs Up and Oceans 11 (for the younger and older age groups, respectively) and had a great night, going to bed tired and excited for the memories in store to be made second session.
