Campers playing pickleball.

Good morning Biroca! Today is Wednesday July the 31st, and it’s Harry Potter’s birthday! We did nothing to celebrate as more importantly, it was James W’s 9th birthday! Go James! We awoke to a cool morning rain just beginning to burn off in the morning sun.

Curiously, several campers’ trunks were perched precariously on the driveway. The only clue left for the potential culprit was the mysterious initials “MP”. Who could this have been? MLev PTolkoff? MBrian PFarley? Not likely. It remains a mystery.

Breakfast was delicious French toast and sausages. Thanks, Jon! Also, at breakfast, a strange phenomenon occurred. Every 5 minutes or so the same set of events would happen. Jamie C would demand his hot chocolate, John F would ask about the weather, Seth B would ring the bell and announce “I’m fired up!”, and a yellow crayon would walk through the lodge looking for his blue and red companions. It felt almost like some time loop that never ended. We were glad for breakfast to end, if nothing else so we didn’t have to watch Fritts J fall out of his chair over and over again.

It was an interesting day for badges! Around noon we had a downpouring of liquid sunshine roll through camp that didn’t end until we went to bed. Despite the onslaught from the hole in the weather dome, Will B managed to finish up his Jr. Craftsman, Charlie L got his Jr. Campcraft, and Zeviah H and Woods H both got their Bowman, the second archery badge! Nice job fellas.

For evening activity (after a delicious meal of steak tips) we wheeled out Martha from the BRC Nursing Home and played a high-stakes game of Bingo! Prizes included a signed Scottie Sheffler polo, one unwrapped Ricola cough drop, a homemade Keates Family Recipe sandwich, and a kangaroo hat from our Australian counselor, Jackson.

The rain and thunder continue, but Biroca is quiet. Goodnight all.
