A Group of Otters is Called a Romp – July 1st blog
Posted by: Birch Rock Camp

Today campus was noticeably quieter than usual. We could hear the birds chirping and the gentle breeze through the trees through the morning. Why do you ask? Because our fearless trip leaders Max and Liam took the twenty youngest campers out for their overnight trips! The Otters departed bright and early, eagerly packing up their sleeping bags and Crazy Creek chairs into the vans off on adventures promising beautiful scenery and perhaps some s’mores. While we eagerly await their return tomorrow, the rest of camp enjoyed a bustling day on the hillside and a lunchtime favorite, Taco Tuesday.
By the time dinner announcements rolled around, it was clear that the badges have been flying from every direction up and down the hill. From the baseball backstop to the lakeside, campers have been diligently earning their badge parts and we all have reveled in their successes with copious mealtime announcements. Trip M. braved the waters of Lake McWain completing his Loon and receiving a reverberating Birch Rock cheer in the lodge.
Nathan M., Leo L., and Angel C. reigned supreme on the Volleyball Court in a definitive win 3 versus 6 earning their junior badges. Alex Y. earned his Junior Windsurfing badge thus completing the fabled “Junior Sweep.” Completing the junior badge in every single activity (all 25 of them!), Alex has impressed us all and earned a rousing Birch Rock cheer.
With a classic Oxford Hills region weather event, a five-minute torrential downpour followed by a beautiful clear sky shifted evening activity to the waterfront for General Swim Part 3! As the sun set, campers hit the hay for what promises to be another exciting day on the Birch Rock hillside tomorrow.
