A Historic Swim & Big Celebrations!

Although today started with a slightly later wake-up for most, Jesus R. was up at the crack of dawn. Over five miles of nonstop swimming later, Jesus completed his Whale—one of the greatest and most grueling achievements at Birch Rock! After fueling up on incredible chocolate pancakes (shout out, Eddie!) and crushing an invigorating first period, the entire camp headed down to the waterfront to cheer him on as he touched the dock and finished his ballena.

The celebration didn’t stop at the water. Our lunch of chicken wraps and delicious “whale cake” was filled with roaring “Olés!” for Jesus. We also raised the roof for Ziggy S., who officially announced he is extending his stay to 7 weeks!

Junior Maine Guide Pre-Testing

Also this morning, Aden R. proudly represented Birch Rock at the annual Junior Maine Guide (JMG) pre-testing rendezvous. JMG is a prestigious program where campers from across the state gather to showcase their elite campcraft, nature, and canoeing skills. It’s an awesome, rigorous program, and we wish Aden the absolute best of luck as he heads into his official testing in a couple of weeks!

Badges Flying High

The afternoon snack was incredibly lively, featuring a multitude of pop-up karaoke performances from some of BRC’s up-and-coming pop stars. Meanwhile, badges were absolutely flying out of departments today:

  • Emmett C. completed his elusive Silverbow after weeks of rigorous shooting—the fourth of five archery badges!
  • Liam P. pulled off an incredible double-feature, earning both his Senior Basketball and Senior Pickleball badges in a single day.
  • Spencer C. dominated the courts to earn his Junior Basketball badge.

Shhh… Silence in the Lodge!

Flagpole kicked off the evening festivities with some well-deserved recognition before the camp shuffled into the lodge for a hilarious, library-themed dinner of burgers and hot dogs. In true library fashion, the entire lodge was dead silent—with the sole exception of Table 11 (the trip table), who clearly didn’t get the memo! After some top-tier M&M cookies (shout out, Gloria!), everyone headed back to their cabins to gear up for a legendary campfire.

Rocking the Campfire

Tonight’s campfire was packed with hilarious, creative skits based on library book titles. For example, Munn cabin hosted an intense food-eating competition playing off The Hunger Games.

The night closed out with an electric, high-energy performance by BRC’s newest rock group, “Dr. Nefario and his Legion of Minion Centipedes.”

  • Everett G. commanded the mic as Dr. Nefario
  • George C. slammed it on the drums
  • Ethan N. & Trip E. rocked out on guitar
  • Tom C. went absolutely crazy on the bass
  • Rhodey V. killed it on the keys

The music was so rocking that a full-blown mosh pit of Hiltonites broke out in the crowd!

After the adrenaline cooled down, the guys of Zig House played some late-night Magic: The Gathering before sitting down to write this recap.

Best Bed: Luke T.
