From the moment Pete rang the bell in the morning, you could tell the energy was electric around camp. From Eagle’s Nest all the way to Zig House, the campers got ready for the day with some extra pep in their step. This energy was only heightened by a delicious breakfast of pancakes and sausages with plenty of butter and syrup. Yum! 

The campers then launched into activities during a beautiful morning. Boats were cruising, sticks were whittled to perfection, arrows whistled through the air, and balls were passed on a dime. At the end of it all, Oliver M emerged with his yeoman badge, Wes H earned his Jr. Lax badge, and Max T finished up the very difficult senior lax badge. Way to go! Meanwhile, the bears finished their final prep and headed out into the woods for a four-day trip either hiking at the Presidentials or canoeing on the Saco River. We wish them an incredible and safe trip!

Over an always wonderful Taco Tuesday, the vibes were turned up a notch with some incredible announcements at lunch. First counselor Connor Polz debuted his first Connor Poll, which found out that campers believed that counselor Eli is most likely to be president, David is most likely to become famous (shout out to his band: Dadlore), and Luis was most likely to be arrested. Next, Noah lined up his henchmen to pledge allegiance to the field. In a heroic and brave act by double agent (lax and swimming instructor) Charlie, he denounced the field and declared his incredibly thoughtful and well-founded love for the waterfront. This led perfectly into the amazing and perfect waterfront director (yours truly) to announce the next activity that the two great spheres of camp would compete over… Mountain Biking! 

Despite the slightly rainy weather, spirits stayed high through third period, then all eyes turned towards the driveway for snack. Noah and Jonah planned to bike across the driveway, jump over an obstacle, 360 around a cone, race around the lodge, jump the obstacle one more time, and then hurry to the finish line. With the audience restless and the impartial CoNAA referee in place, the race started. Unbeknownst to everyone, maybe even Noah himself, the field director unfortunately did not know how to ride a bike. Despite his best effort to run next to the bike, Jonah claimed glorious victory for the waterfront.

While the rain picked up throughout the afternoon, that spirit that began in the morning could not be dimmed. A dinner of shepherd’s pie was filled with debates about the best meals and desserts at Birch Rock, declarations of independence for some activities, and a generally good feeling in the air, which was accentuated by Noah announcing that because of the rain, tonight we would open the BRC karaoke lounge! Everybody sang incredibly, and a good time was had by all!
