Today marked the end of activities for BRCs centennial first session, but the excitement and fun will not stop anytime soon! Badges flew out from the very beginning of the day, and powered through all the way until the end. It started with some very healthy veggie-egg mixture plopped on our plates. After breakfast we were treated to some sporadic bouts of liquid sunshine, fueling up the greens around campus and leaving things sparkling as the sun shined down for the rest of the morning.
Right around lunch our courageous Otters, the youngest age group, returned from their overnight trips to Kancamagus and Pleasant Pond. They were absolutely stoked to be back in time to chow down on some delicious chicken patties.
In the afternoon we were greeted with some blustery winds and more liquid sunshine, driving the activities inside where they focused on “ball knowledge” about all things from basketball to soccer to windsurfing. The energy remained high. In nature Seth Brewster fed a moth that Jackson C. caught with his bare hands to a frog in the Fish Hatchery (nature building) and reported “it just wouldn’t stop croaking.” Strange things were afoot, obviously. We’ll check in on that frog later to make sure there were no gastrointestinal issues, but Jackson was pretty sure that’s a part of a frog’s natural diet.
At dinner a whole host of badges were announced to the group, including Drew Bs Duck (quack), Hunter Ss Duck (quack) and Emmett Cs advanced archery badge the American Archer (holy cow that’s impressive). It was reported that during the teaching part of his badge he introduced the Moose age group to secret Mongolian archery techniques. Impressive.
Finally, we ended the night with an electric opening of the BRC Wiffleball Thunderdome. It was a heated battle between the Sanderson Steamrollers and the Plate Pile-Drivers. Announcers were announcing, statistics were flying around, there may have been a 6’10” ten year-old, and Hilton streakers may have shut down the field at one point, but an incredible time was had by all. The score, you ask? A tie, if you believe it, at FUN-FUN, with Liam P. batting an incredibly 1.1 batting average. Don’t ask questions they won’t help.
Tomorrow, we begin the process of packing up our first sessioners, celebrating their successes, and eating a delicious, special meal prepped fresh by our fantastic gentlemen in the kitchen.
We’ll see you then!
