Camp started off STRONG and full of energy bright and early. For breakfast, Eddie whipped up some good ol’ grits, and a brand new recipe of German french toast that everyone loved! Starting off at the waterfront, a Canadian Racing Pigeon that was previously spotted, captured, and then released made its way BACK to camp, where Kenny D. caught it before its owner picked it up. We’ll miss you, Richard Jr.!

 Remaining at the waterfront, Zech I. has been hard at work trying to obtain his Sr. Kayaking badge, and today, his efforts finally paid off! Alongside Zech, both Will B. and Nevo B. both got their junior canoeing badge, the Penobscot. Great work gentlemen!

Today during 1st rest, the wolves were packing up to go into DA WOODS!! For 3 days and 2 nights, the wolves will become one with nature and embrace their energetic and wild side.

Lunch today was very special, and not because of the Mac and Cheese. For dessert, we had Black Raspberry Ice Cream, which was Lt. Peter B. Haas’s favorite. We commemorate and honor him every summer on his birthday to give thanks for his generosity, selflessness, and bravery. He was a role model for everyone at Birch Rock, even funding and building the staff swim tent from his own paycheck. He later served in the US Marines, where he tragically lost his life in a helicopter training accident in the Highlands of South Korea. 

Many of our upper campers went up to the soccer field this afternoon to begin their clinic with Coach Ben Brewster of the Bates College soccer team. They ran hard, did a whole lot of pushups, and did some really tricky technical dribbling drills. 

To end the day off, everyone went up to the field for evening activity and played their hearts out in a fun (and intense) game of Capture the flag!
