Campfire, YO!- June 27th Blog

Today, Trip Leader John Reisert woke up at home missing camp. But enough about him. Here at camp it was so totally sick! Thank goodness the Gods of Biroca blessed us with a late wake-up and then double blessed us with the fluffiest pancakes to ever cross Lucas T’s plate. The accompanying sausage was both tantalizing and scrumptious. After that amazing way so start the day we pondered over the first Word Power of the summer – Sonder.
Sonder (son·der): the realization and understanding that all other people have lives as complex as their own.
The campers were challenged to go through the day with a bit of sonder, and a bit of empathy towards those around them. At lunch, a delicious spread of cold cuts and an outrageously stocked salad bar kept us fueled and ready to take on anything. In addition, badge parts were flying, and Lenny N. scored his senior soccer badge! After lunch, the Moose and Bears headed up to the field for a special One-Day-Only activity: Flag Football! Led by Joshua “Tom Brady” Garcia. The final score, if you can believe it, was a tie at FUN-FUN. The MVPs of the game were TPZ, Caden G., and Drew Be.
During second rest, the sounds of campers acting, singing, and preparing for the night ahead of them could be heard all around camp. Meanwhile, Oliver W. FINALLY cashed in his bingo prize and enjoyed a steaming cup of tea in Semanas with Jack Duggan and his JC Michael Niola.
After a delicious dinner of burgers and dogs, we headed all the way down to New York City for our Saturday CAMPFIRE, the Ocky way! The skits ranged from the story of the Evil MAXX (or, RELOADED after Max T.), the tale of the Bleood [sic] Shirt (apparently a music “artist”), the Knicks’ absolutely legendary, completely objective, and deeply important decisive win over the Spurs.
At the end of campfire, just as the voices began to quiet and the applause began to die, a beating drum could be heard steadily growing. A spirit of the woods emerged onto the stage to tell the story of two brothers: Black Elk and Red Wolf. As the spirit wandered through the crowd, anticipation built…until…it was announced that tomorrow, we play…JERONIMO!
