Arrows and Arcadia: A Mighty Fine Thursday- July 30th Blog
Posted by: Logan Landry
We didn’t let the rain bring us down on this mighty fine Thursday!!
After a brief bout of rain last night, camp woke up a bit soggy, but still ready to attack the day ahead. Fueled on by cheesy eggs and sausage, the campers surged into their morning activities. Thankfully, the Don Munn weather dome protected us from the worst of the weather this morning, and the mist was not thick enough to damp either our spirits or our badge getting abilities. There were SO many badges given out this morning! I would name them all, but my rough estimate for how many badge announcements were made at lunch is four quadrillion, and that’s too much to fit in this blog.
Meanwhile, at Camp Oatka, campers Milo S., Drew B., Lukas J., James K., Will C., and Carter C. were fantastically representing Birch Rock at the annual archery tournament! Arrows flew, scores were added up, friends were made, and as the dust settled Birch Rock finished second of the six camps, and James K. won with the best score in his age group! Birch Rock continues its streak of achieving victory in every competition we’ve entered this year, while also behaving like true gentlemen.
In the afternoon, the rain finally found its way to Birch Rock, but only a trickle, and the campers managed to pump out even more badges. In addition to their achievements, a buzz started to go through camp. Lights and speakers were being moved to the lodge, dinner was moved earlier, older kids were showering instead of going into the lake… these signs only point to one thing: The Tennis Ball!! This is when we welcome our friends from Camp Arcadia to Birch Rock for a night of bumping music, raucous dancing, and delicious appetizers (thanks to Jon). Meanwhile, the younger kids didn’t even notice anyone else was here, because they were sitting front row at the BRC cinema. Both sides of camp had a wonderful time, and fell asleep dreaming of the badges to come.
